Sony XM GS4 Amplifier

Product Overview

The Sony XM-GS4 is an audiophile-grade 4-channel High-Resolution Audio amplifier engineered to deliver ultra-clean signal processing and broad sound stages inside your vehicle. Capable of driving 70 Watts RMS x 4 at 4 Ohms (or 160 Watts RMS x 2 bridged), this amplifier utilizes premium internal componentry to bring live-studio clarity and dynamic response to your aftermarket door speakers or subwoofers.

Ultra-Wide 10Hz100kHz Frequency Range & High-Res Audio

Unlike standard car amplifiers that cut off above $20ext{ kHz}$, the XM-GS4 boasts an ultra-wide frequency response extending up to $100ext{ kHz}$. This bandwidth makes it fully compatible with High-Resolution Audio sources, capturing upper-frequency spatial harmonics and sub-bass notes that bring realistic depth and instrument separation to your soundstage.

Audiophile Hardware & Bi-Amplification Support

Built inside a heavy-duty aluminum heatsink body that absorbs external road vibrations, the XM-GS4 incorporates premium Schottky-barrier diodes and high-speed MOSFET power supplies for rapid energy transfer and low electrical distortion. Its versatile 4-channel layout supports bi-amplification setups, enabling you to separate low frequencies from mid/high drivers for distortion-free listening.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: What makes a “High-Resolution Audio” amplifier different from standard car amplifiers?

A: Standard car amplifiers generally taper off frequencies above 20,000 Hz (the limit of average human hearing). High-Res amps like the Sony XM-GS4 extend frequency reproduction all the way to 100,000 Hz (100 kHz). While you don’t hear these ultra-high frequencies directly, their presence harmonizes with audible tones, providing ambient space, sharper instrument separation, and a noticeably more realistic acoustic soundstage.

Q: Can I use the Sony XM-GS4 with a factory (OEM) radio stereo?

A: Yes! The XM-GS4 features both standard RCA preamp inputs and Speaker-Level (High-Level) inputs. Included speaker-level harness adapters allow you to tap directly into your vehicle’s factory door-speaker wires without needing an expensive external line output converter.

Q: What wiring kit size is recommended for installing the XM-GS4?

A: Sony recommends using a high-quality 8-gauge power and ground installation kit equipped with an inline fuse holder placed near your vehicle’s main battery.

Q: What do the Subsonic Filter and High/Low-Pass Filters do on this amp?

A: The High-Pass Filter (HPF) stops low bass notes from reaching small door speakers to prevent distortion. The Low-Pass Filter (LPF) blocks mid/high frequencies when driving subwoofers. The Subsonic Filter cuts off extremely low, sub-audible frequencies (below 20 Hz) that waste amplifier power and cause excessive, harmful woofer cone flutter.

Q: Will the active cooling fan make noise inside my car cabin?

A: No. The variable-speed cooling fan adjusts its RPM automatically according to internal temperature load. It operates silently at lower volumes and only ramps up when driving heavy loadsat which point your music will easily mask any whisper-quiet air movement.
